Before we get to today’s poem, I have a message for all of you…
I just want to encourage you all to post whatever it is you want to post. And if you’re only a reader who’s toyed with the idea of writing, please just give it a try.
I say this (again) because I stumbled upon a poem today that I wrote at least three years ago and forgot about. At that time I wouldn’t have dreamed of publishing any form of writing to be seen by others. I just didn’t have that confidence. But now that I’ve been here for a bit, I can see that I was only denying the notion that I have something to say. I’m not a perfect writer. This poem isn’t perfect. But NOT saying what you have to say deprives the world of joy and beauty. That’s a sin I can no longer justify.
So again; write it and post it. It’s probably better than you think. And even if it’s not, it’s progress. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Now to the poem posted without editing, as it was finished three years ago.
Waking first, before his beloveds, a cup of coffee in hand.. First steps made to the outdoors, a moment to be To his ears come peacefully, the music of the dawn The quiet stirred by the creatures, carrying God’s song “Joy comes in the morning.”
I like it, Derek. Describes my exactl routine each morning. Coffee out on the porch. Just God and me. Observing His creation awaken. Thanking Him for another day. Surely, that is Joy each morning. Thanks for capturing that moment in this poem.
That is the heart of the Gospel; the promise of joy in the morning. Every morning and some bright morning yet to come.
We are derided for believing in "pie in the sky some by and by." I'm OK with that. "The hope of things unseen" is an important part of the Walk and has gotten many a saint through the hard times.
